But when the press calls them "conservative," they're just people with a political ideology like anyone else. The discourse on gay rights needs to be changed. For example, let's amend what I wrote to what it should be...

That's better.

Also on the political tip, the paper actually printed my editorial, albeit in the following version:

Republicans have serious doubts about John Bolton

Your Aug. 2 editorial, "Bush has little choice," regarding the recess appointment of John Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations, was a gross mischaracterization of a complicated situation.

You said that "Senate Democrats who filibustered Mr. Bolton's nomination for five months left the president little choice," but Senate Republicans have expressed the greatest reservations about him.

It was Republican Sen. George Voinovich who stalled his nomination earlier this year. The senator later broke down in tears on the Senate floor while begging his colleagues to vote against Mr. Bolton.

It was Republican committee chairman Sen. Richard Lugar who criticized Mr. Bolton for ignoring the policy consequences of his statements and accused him of threatening diplomacy simply to score international debating points to appeal to segments of the U.S. public opinion or to validate a personal point of view.

It was Republican former State Department intelligence chief Carl W. Ford Jr. who called Mr. Bolton a serial abuser and testified that the damage and personal hurt he causes isn't worth the price that has to be paid.

And Mr. Bolton's former boss, former secretary of State Colin Powell, opposes the nomination. In addition, Republican Sens. Lincoln Chafee, Chuck Hagel and Lisa Murkowski have all voiced concerns about his abilities.

Nevertheless, you didn't mention a single one of those names, incidents or statements. You instead paint Mr. Bolton as Miguel Estrada II, a great man victimized by liberal trickery.

I think that Democrats have overused the filibuster lately and I don't really have a problem with recess appointments, either. But I do have a problem with newspapers who skew to the right or left by reporting tiny tidbits of big stories.

Ann Coulter is my thinspiration and all, but if she hates him, you know Roberts must be doing something right.

I think you're missing out on a great tourist opportunity. "The Abortion Mill of America" has a nice harmony to it.

"Mill?" That's kinda gross.

Yeah, I liked him to begin with, but her opposition to him really sealed the deal. Then again, I think this may be RNC reverse psychology, because if they're not a united front it gives the image of weakness thereby getting us Bush-haters to like him.

He's obviously very conservative personally, but I don't give a shit about that as long as he has the credentials to make a good judge. Any Bush-hater who opposes Roberts is setting themselves up for an alternate nominee to the right of Genghis Khan. Do they think he's going to nominate Barney Frank or something? This is Bush's version of an olive branch. Take it and venture onward to the 2006 midterms without being perceived as obstructionists.

I expected Bush to nominate one of those "PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF LIFE, KILL AN ABORTIONIST" types. But I don't know what to make of Roberts. Once helping a legal partner work a case hardly makes him a gay rights activist. He says he'll honor precedent, but has disagreed with prior decisions and is now in the position to change things.

I hope the RNC continues their trend of picking Judges that bite them in the ass.

Agreed. And if anyone opposed to Bush thinks they're going to get someone better if they ditch Roberts they're slightly worse than FUCKING INSANE. Roberts is Bush's version of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Yeah totally because "In these dangerous times, we cannot afford to put at risk our nation's ability to successfully wage and win the war on terror with a controversial and ineffective ambassador to the United Nations" has the exact same effect as "HE DON'T LIKE HIM NONE."

I always have been and always will be. It's one of my biggest issues, really.

Roberts isn't a gay rights crusader, and that's really what makes me so mad about the whole thing. They act like he's the president of GLAAD or something when it seems to me that he was just a citizen concerned that a law was passed for the simple purpose of making it clear that homos are fair game for hatin' on.
